SSC North East Youth Forum Representative

The club would like to Congratulate and support Scarborough Swimming Club swimmer 15yr old Jack Naylor, who attended the North East Swimming development day in Beverley, during March this year prior to lockdown, as a Swim England Young Leader,  where he gained his British Swimming Timekeeper qualification and learnt more about volunteering and Swimming Officiating. https://asaner.org.uk/young-leaders-qualify-as-british-swimming-timekeepers/ Jack has now been selected to represent young swimmers in the North East as part of the Swim England North East’s Youth Forum. He has also started his J1 training and has attended a safeguarding course online during lockdown, after enjoying officiating alongside the referee at Beverley’s open meet in March.  The North East Swim England Youth Forum met for the first time this year via Zoom, last Wednesday and Jack has been asked to to let his own Club’s young swimmers know of his new position,  so that they can give Jack any feedback or ideas they would like him to take to and develop with the next Youth Forum.  The intention of the Youth Forum members is to:
  • represent the interest of young people participating or volunteering within Aquatics with the NE Region

  • develop a network of young people participating or volunteering within Aquatics within the region

  • develop a network of young people throughout the organisation and the sport

  • represent the views of young people across all of the aquatic disciplines including swimming, diving, water polo, synchronised swimming and open water

  • assist on projects within the NE Region such as the development of resources and training opportunities for young volunteers

  • act as ambassadors for the sport and the organisation at a local, Regional and National level

Further information can be found here:  https://asaner.org.uk/north-east-region-youth-forum/ The North East Youth Forum also feeds into Swim England’s National Youth Forum.  Jack will attend another meeting next month where they will all take on different roles such as Chairman, Treasurer, Marketing, etc and begin to work on their first project together.  As face to face contact is limited at the moment, the Club is looking into set up a dedicated youth forum club email. Jack can be currently contacted through his Mum, Zoe Naylor, who is a DBS cleared and safeguard trained Coach at the club -  Zoes email is : zoenaylor@hotmail.com Jack was quoted about his on the development day on the SE NER post below and adds : “The Young Leaders Development Day was really excellent and has given me the confidence and skills I need to go on and officiate future swim meets inside and outside of my club (once we can compete again!) and has led to me being invited to join the Swim England’s North East Youth Forum. Being a part of both schemes has encouraged me to go on and complete more opportunities to gain experience and qualifications and I’m looking forward to being an ambassador and representing swimmers from our Region and SSC. Please send me your swimming ideas or feedback so I can take these to future meetings of the Youth Forum.”
