September 2019 - Junior Yorkshire Swimming Championships

Day 1

It’s been a busy day of swimming today at the Junior Yorkshire Championships in Leeds. Well done to SSC swimmers and members Sam, Bess and Izzy for holding their nerve and giving every swim their all against a very competitive field. Sam is the very proud owner of a finalist cap for coming 9th in the 10 and under 50 breast. He hit the top 15 in all 5 of his races with lots of PBs including a massive 7 second PB in his 100 fly. Bess got a 20th placing in her 50 breast and PBd in all her 5 races today, knocking 5 seconds off her 100IM time with a 26th placing. Izzy swam a brilliant 100 breaststroke race also gaining her a finalist cap, a PB and 7th place. More races tomorrow and looking forward to seeing the SSC camp grow with Lily, Billy and Eric joining us.

Day 2

Final day of the  Junior Yorkshire Championships in Leeds for our swimmers age 12 or younger... another fantastic day of achievements. 10 year old Sam Race was up first with 50 fly (36.90) - an amazing swim in a middlish heat but he smashed it, forging a comfortable lead and finishing with a 4 second PB and 5th place overall earning himself his second finalist cap of the weekend. He swam a strong 100 free in the afternoon gaining him a 14th placing and another 3 second PB. Sam finished in the top 15 in all his 7 races over the weekend, PBing in all but one - a brilliant achievement! Also earning herself a finalist cap for the second day running was Izzy Vasey in her 50 breast race with an 8th placing in a very close race - very well done Izzy! 10 year old Bess Naylor PBd in 8 of her 9 races, gaining her highest placing of the weekend today, 19th in her 100 breast and knocking a whopping 7 seconds off her PB. In the same event Lily Smith earned herself a great PB (1:49:67). Eric Hobkinson swam a strong 50 fly race with another great PB and attacked his 50 breast race in the afternoon along with Billy Kelly who knocked more than 2 seconds off his 50 breast time. Well done all of you for qualifying, swimming so well on the day and holding your nerve against really strong competition. This was the first Yorkshires for many of you and you did us proud! Keep up the good work everyone - having 7 swimmers qualifying in this age group is great but I'm sure we can get more next time around... you're a talented bunch SSC swimmers!
