Scarborough swimming club update 10/07/2020 by Club Chairman, Sam Greetham
Dear parents, guardians and club members,
I hope you and your families have been able to stay safe and healthy during these unprecedented times.
As the lockdown measures start to ease, the government have announced indoor swimming pools can now reopen from the 25th July. This is subject to new safety guidelines, including lower numbers in lanes and very strict cleaning procedures. The timetable for this is now determined by Everyone Active who are the operators of the pool. Although government and Swim England approve reopening, there is still plenty of work that needs to be done to ensure the Leisure Centre can open safely, and it is likely to take time to establish available pool time for our membership.
As Chairman of Scarborough Swimming Club it is my intention for all our members to safely return to pool swimming as soon as possible. I guarantee every member will have an opportunity to attend dedicated sessions which will cater for all abilities. Details of sessions will be forwarded as soon as I have confirmation from the facilitators.
During lockdown I have been working through the guidelines and liaising with others. More recently, I have been involved in numerous Zoom meetings with Jane Nickerson, chief executive of Swim England, Russ Barber British Coaching, David Parry of Swim England and Steve Tigg from the American Coaching Association. All agreed that the safety of swimmers, coaches, teachers and parents/guardians is imperative. Further meetings are planned and any developments will be forwarded to all Scarborough Swimming Club members.
In the meantime, you will shortly be contacted by our Membership team. This is to help manage numbers across potential limited pool space, times and restrictions on capacity. The team will also like to get an indication of our swimmers intentions. Plus, we are always open to new ideas, suggestions and even constructive criticism which will benefit the Club and enhance the development of our members.
Finally, and most importantly, please stay safe and take extra care.
Chairman of Scarborough Swimming Club
