Scarborough and District Swimming Championships 2018
The 2018 Sadsa Championships were held on Sunday 25th November at the Scarborough Sports Village . The Sadsa association has 12 member clubs and gives all swimmers the opportunity to shine at all levels of swimming and to be rewarded for their efforts in training. This year the championships were a licensed A/B/C event at level 3, giving swimmers the opportunity to also qualify for the Spring Yorkshire Championships 2019 and have their times ranked on the British Swimming database. The 39 entered Scarborough swimmers did not disappoint , with some outstanding races from both younger swimmers in their first licensed event, to the more experienced regional level swimmers from the club.
The opening event was the 100m Freestyle and saw the Scarborough boys immediately showcase their talents. 15yr old Owen Hobkinson proving his commitment to training has paid off, with an impressive 8 sec Personal best swim of 58.79, he took the A grade Gold and earned his first sub minute swim. His Scarborough team mates of Harry Butterworth, Marcus Moore , Angus Leckonby and Samuel Moment also pulling out new Personal best times in this power and speed event. The younger boys showed their potential with medals and personal best times coming from 13yr Bryan Hogg and Matthew Wilson, 11yr Eric Hobkinson and 10yr Ryan Souter. 9yr Sam Race and James Draper claimed a Gold Medal each , for the A and B grades respectively. The girls 100m Freestyle was equally exciting. The older girls of Milly Gibson, Lauren Brown, Caitlin Wilson, Holly Franklin took home both medals medals and new PBs between them, with 15yr Atlanta Dowkes taking the A grade Gold Medal home, in a time of 1.03.45. The younger girls of Leona Cornforth, Megan Kelly, Emily Kelly, Chloe Holloway, Georgina Calvert, Maisy Smith, Rhionne Willin, Isabelle Towse, Madison Elder, Lexie Atkin and Holly Draper all impressing , with their strong competitive swims , resulting in numerous medals and PBs for their age group swims.
A licensed gala can be a daunting experience but the younger Scarborough swimmers, some at their first big event, rose to the occasion. First time competitors Bea Russell and Lani Russell , sprinted their events to earn themselves pleasing new personal best times, 10 year Saphire Tingle showed her potential with medals for her 50 Free and 50 Breaststroke in her first open gala, while the more experienced youngsters of Holly Draper, Bess Naylor, Eleanor Kirby and Lily Smith continued to impress , with new PB and medals in their 50m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle events. The 13yr Scarborough girls continued with their competitive racing in the 50m Freestyle . Maisy Smith taking the A grade Gold, in a new personal best time of 31.32 , closely followed by Rhionne Wilkin in Silver , Georgina Calvert in Bronze and Alexandra Beeson into 4th. The younger boys were impressive in their 50m Freestyle, 9yr Sam Race continued his winning streak taking another A grade Gold. James Draper, Ryan Souter, Eric Hobkinson and Paolo Messenger also taking home medals. 13yr olds Matthew Wilson, Jack Naylor and Bryan Hogg claiming themselves medals and new personal best times but it was on form 15yr old Owen Hobkinson who finished on the fastest swim of the day, to take the A grade 50m freestyle Gold, in a competitive Spring Yorkshire Qualification PB of 27.20.
